My Story...
Fresh out of speech pathology school in Baltimore, I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to open a private practice for performers. But the reality of building a business in New York City quickly set in. To keep the lights on, I juggled what felt like 20 jobs. All the while, I clung to my dream of helping singers and actors find their voice.
Eventually, that dream became a reality. My performer practice flourished, and I was working solely with singers from 10 am to 7 pm each day. But I soon discovered a frustrating ceiling. I couldn't work more hours or charge more, and I was doing the same things repeatedly. I loved it, but I craved more variety, income, and growth.
Public speaking was my least favorite class in college. But then, I met my friend Jane while walking my dog one day in Chelsea. That friendship led to a seemingly insignificant one-off gig at Google unexpectedly changed everything. It catapulted me into a 17-year adventure in corporate communication coaching, which even led to a role at the TED Institute where I coached 22 TED talks. My work has also been featured on Bravo, the Oprah Winfrey Network, and Good Morning America.
Through those 17 years, I experimented with countless coaching models, facing the same frustrations and limitations that many of you experience now. But through trial and error, I finally cracked the code and developed a framework that truly works.
It's the same system I use to help people write TED talks, keynotes, prepare for panel interviews, podcasts, media spots, create YouTube videos, and even work on their books. It's based on the idea of "Sprints" that I learned from engineers - focused, time-bound bursts of activity that lead to tangible results.
